Jason Crow

Jason Crow

MANAGING DIRECTOR / Jason has been involved in the health and fitness industry for more than 20 years. He has lived and trained in California, USA and his international experience as a personal trainer is widely recognised on both sides of the Atlantic. / He started working in a corporate environment for a New York based company managing the health and wellness for many top executives. Since then he has overseen the training for National athletes and teams, writing articles for many national journals, established and implemented exercise procedures for individuals with severe clinical conditions, both privately and for large medical institutions. Jason comes from a strength and conditioning background, having spent many years as a power lifter and a Judo player. He always enjoys the challenge of developing exercise programs to meet the needs of any individual regardless of their age, starting level of fitness or medical condition. He still draws satisfaction from seeing people make physical improvements that significantly improve their lives, achieving levels of fitness they never believed possible. Jason has gained all the relevant qualifications in the health and exercise field following completing his Honour’s degree in Exercise and Sports Science at the University of Brighton. Attaining qualifications with the National Strength and Conditioning Association, The American College of Sports Medicine and taking a position as a lecturer with The University of Kent Sports Science Department. Jason’s goal is to maintain his excellent training ability, constantly improve his knowledge, and create and educate a supporting team of exercise specialists to follow in his footsteps. Jason firmly believes that a sports exercise or rehabilitation degree is the perfect foundation for a successful career in health and fitness. He has made it his mission to work with employers and Universities to show the graduates of today how they can build on the knowledge that they have gained at University to develop a successful career for life.

DIRECTOR / Chris has been a part of the Better Body Group team since our humble beginnings in the spare room of a lawnmower shop (a lot has changed!). Over the past 7 years he has conducted over 8000 personal training sessions and classes making him one of our most experienced trainers. / Chris is the Co-Owner of the Better Body Group and when he is not helping you to achieve your weight loss goals he is striving to expand the better body group into more world class fitness facilities. Back in 2007 Chris completed his degree in Sport and Exercise Science at Sheffield University and went on to qualify as a National strength and conditioning coach, gaining his CSCS with the NSCA. Chris is also a licensed Thai Boxer, and spends most of his spare time training Muay Thai, hitting pads and generally getting beaten up in the ring! Just like all of our trainers Chris loves to keep adding to his qualifications and in an effort to help develop our company further is in his 4th year of study at the London school of business. Having spent the last 7 years building BBG alongside business partner Jason Crow, the pair are now concentrating on building new centres across the UK, providing opportunities for trainers that fit the BBG mould. Chris has recently been nominated as a finalist in the Young Entrepreneur of the year award for excellence in business. Something he is particularly proud of as it still includes the word ‘Young’…..only just!

George Cooper

GENERAL MANAGER / George is our General Manager. He completed his Leisure and Sport Management degree at UWIC, Cardiff in 2008 and joined our team in 2010. / He is a keen sportsman and plays every Saturday for his local football team, AFC Valour. With a background in Tae Kwon Do and Kickboxing, George will keep you fighting fit using a combination of boxing drills, resistance training and intervals. George is also very handy in the kitchen, so watch out for his recipes on our social media pages. “Many of my clients are amazed at what they are capable of, none more so than my over 60’s clients. Many of them join my class and move on to work with me for personal training where we see, not only increased strength, flexibility, balance and fitness, but changes in body composition and increased musculature.” George’s clients achieve amazing results, many of which you can see as testimonials on our website and Facebook page.

CENTRE MANAGER / Lucy was the second member to join The Better Body Group 9 years ago! This makes her one of the most experienced trainers in the BBG family. / Having studied in Canterbury to gain a National Diploma in sport, also studied Sports Therapy and further qualified in UKCC Women’s Artistic Gymnastic Coaching. She is also a member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Lucy never holds back from doing ‘one more’ compound exercise, she may look sweet and innocent but don’t let that smile fool you! Being the longest serving trainer Lucy’s experience and knowledge truly shines, proving she’s one of the best there is (so get booked in quickly). Over the years Lucy has seen and dealt with it all. Her coaching experience spans all levels of fitness, age, gender and injury status. She is always dedicated to her clients and shows tremendous patience for those who are new to exercise After one session with her you can tell how much she loves her job! Outside of training, Lucy is an enthusiastic horse rider, gymnast and marathon runner.

EXERCISE SPECIALIST / Joe is a fun, knowledgeable and enthusiastic trainer who has successful experiences training people of all different shapes of sizes. / Joe graduated from Loughborough University studying Sport & Exercise Sciences. He also graduated from his master’s degree with distinction from Loughborough University in Exercise Physiology. Before joining the Better Body Group he spent time as a Strength & Conditioning coach with Super League side, Bradford Bulls.

James Blanchard

HEAD OF NUTRITION / It is clear to anyone who comes across James how passionate and committed he is about health and fitness. / His extensive repertoire ranges from increasing power and strength for international rugby teams, improving sport performance and fitness in young athletes, and helping professionals slash their risk of lifestyle related diseases. Nutrition was a major focus in James’ education. Part of his final project at university was providing nutritional support to an elite level weightlifter. He is also Precision Nutrition qualified; a nutrition certification focusing on helping others change their eating behavior’s in order to achieve their health and fitness goals. This is reflected in his coaching; James puts a huge emphasis on the power of good nutrition to improve health and performance in his clients. He has written our in house nutrition guide as well as providing bespoke nutrition plans to clients via 1 to 1 consultations. Also a keen athlete himself, James has tried his hand at many different power sports: sprinting, weightlifting, strongman and bob skeleton, and he has now happily settled on powerlifting! Even representing our own Better Body Group.

Lauren Hull

HEAD OF BEHAVIORAL CHANGE / Lauren’s interest in the factors affecting performance and involvement in sport developed during her Psychology degree at the University of St Andrews, and led her to study for a Masters in Sport and Health Science at Exeter University after completing her undergraduate degree. / In particular, she has explored the relationship between exercise and depression, as well as the role of sport in attenuating cigarette cravings and other types of addiction. Lauren extended her understanding of this aspect of sport psychology through her involvement in relevant research, when she designed and co-facilitated a set of pilot studies which explored the relationship between attention, exercise and addiction. Lauren believes that the health of the body is dependent on that of the mind, and that mental health is affected by physical health. People were designed to move and be active, and therefore exercise is natural for anyone who has a body – even if they don’t think so! Lauren’s philosophy is underlined by these principles, manifestly in the idea that a healthy lifestyle is ultimately more fun than an unhealthy one. A firm believer in the life changing qualities of sport, she will share this enthusiasm with a focus on building your confidence and self-concept in order to show you the scope of your own capabilities. Having trained in endurance sports for over ten years, she has considerable personal experience and guidance for individuals who are interested in building fitness and improving their endurance. Whether it is motivating you to contemplate your first event, or driving you to push into the next level of competition, Lauren will mark out your goals and work alongside you to help you reach them.

James Allen

EXERCISE SPECIALIST / James is a knowledgeable, experienced and enthusiastic trainer at the Better Body Group and has been a valuable member of the team since joining in June 2013. His hunger for contemporary and accurate knowledge and application of this knowledge allows his clients to improve efficiently and with great sustainability whether there goal is fat loss, muscular adaptations, postural improvements or decreased risk of injury. / James had experience in Youth Athlete Development and specialized in football coaching within both Charlton Athletic FC and Southern Association Football Academy (SAFA). James’ previous competitive history includes playing for both Charlton Athletic and Brighton & Hove Albion football clubs. James used to run 1500m and cross-country for club level and currently bosses the Central Midfield of the Tonbridge and District league. James’ training style is one emphasizing the importance of resistance training to improve functional strength, decrease injury risk and just generally feeling awesome, either specific to athletic performance or daily living. James loves nothing more than seeing individuals change their lifestyles to a more active, healthy and pain free one. In the future James is looking to specialise in exercise prescription and application to cancer patients during or post treatment. Just make sure to lookout for his cheeky smile and horrendous dance moves round the gym and you’ll be onto a winner.

EXERCISE SPECIALIST / Chris joined the Better Body Group after graduating from the University of Greenwich with a first class honours degree in Sports and Exercise Science. / Chris has been interested and involved in health and fitness from a very young age, training and competing in tennis at county and club level where he has achieved great success. His aims are to apply the lessons and knowledge learnt from his sporting background to help clients achieve their goals, no matter how big or small. He also has several years of tennis coaching experience teaching adults and children of all abilities. While not only improving their individual performance but also maintaining levels of enjoyment and motivation throughout. Chris’ main area of focus is on fitness testing and prevention of chronic illness. Whether you are looking to lose body fat or reduce your risk of coronary heart disease, Chris has the knowledge to help you achieve results quickly and safely.

Robyn Taylor

Robyn has been working at The Better Body Group since July 2012 and is the youngest of the team, starting off part time working weekends while studying her A-levels in Travel and Tourism, Art and Design, and Photography. / Since finishing she went on to study a Foundation Degree at the UCA specialising in Fashion Photography. In 2014 she started working full time at the Better Body Group, and continues to learn new skills as a PA helping the team. Look out for her cheeky smile on the front desk and you’ll be in for a good chat!

Shelley Taylor

Shelley Taylor

Shelley has been working at The Better Body Group since May 2011, before that she worked for a law firm as an office manager and previous to that in the catering industry both in front of house and accounts. / Shelley is originally from South Africa and has been living in the UK for the last 20yrs with her two children. As well as looking after front of house and accounts on a daily basis, she is also surrogate mum to all the trainers and a much loved member of the team.

Maike Czasche

EXERCISE SPECIALIST / Maike has a Masters degree in Strength and Conditioning with Distinction. Her research interest is in the biomechanics of the knee joint, knee injury prevention and athletic performance enhancement. She is a qualified Strength and Conditioning Coach with the UK Strength and Conditioning Association and has vast experience working with athletes from a variety of sports. / She has professional experience as a Head Strength and Conditioning Coach in elite tennis and basketball, and has worked in performance skiing, swimming, rugby and personal training. Maike trains individuals of all ages and ability levels and enjoys the challenge of helping her clients reach the next performance level. Maike is a technically driven coach with a goal-orientated mentality and wants you to achieve your personal targets. If it is performance increase, weight reduction, muscle gain, general fitness or body sculpturing, she has the scientific knowledge, proven experience and the ambition to help you succeed. Maike believes in the continuous professional development of her expertise to offer the best service possible. In her free time she enjoys tennis, Olympic weightlifting, skiing, hiking and art. Graham Ferris

EXERCISE SPECIALIST / Having played rugby competitively since the age of 14, Graham moved into coaching when injuries threatened his playing career. While playing semi-professionally in Australia he was introduced to strength and conditioning and he’s been hooked ever since. / Graham decided to focus his studies on strength and conditioning while enrolled on an Honours Degree in Sport and Exercise Science at Leeds Metropolitan University. He has worked with several professional sports clubs with the likes of Bradford Bulls Rugby League and Northampton Saints Rugby Union being just a few names on his CV. Aiding in the ankle rehabilitation of Ben Foden (England Rugby) and having a hand in the development of potential Great Britain Javelin throwers for Rio 2016, Graham has an impressive amount of applied knowledge under his belt. He now chooses to focus largely on young athlete development and is always keeping up to date with the latest scientific research. He feels there is a huge pool of talent out there and with the correct professional coaching, they can succeed at anything they set their minds to. Having recently moved to the South to take up a position at The Better Body Group, Graham looks for clients with a “can-do” approach. Always cheerful, always wearing a smile, when you see him in the gym, go over and say hi.

Christina Moore

EXERCISE SPECIALIST / Christina studied at the University of Kent and Graduated with a First Class (Hons) Degree in Sports Therapy. Since starting with The Better Body Group in 2014 she has learnt new techniques to treat and improve injury’s and pain. / Christina has specific knowledge and interest in musculoskeletal injury diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation. If you have any aches and pains or more serious injuries she is happy to help in any way with general advice on self-management and training. Having competed nationally as a gymnast for several years up to the age of fifteen and from there on training and competing nationally and internationally representing Blackheath and Bromley and Kent County in the pole vault, Christina has a lot of personal experience in various training methods. She understands the demands of exercise on the human body and is able to adapt to your individual needs. Christina has experienced a lot of the challenges that come with regular training but is energetic and enthusiastic to keep you motivated on your journey to achieving your goals and will always welcome success and positive change.

EXERCISE SPECIALIST / Hammys background is dominated by the sport of rugby. Having competed at a professional & semi professional standard and having actively been in charge of senior and junior professional rugby players at established clubs. / Although he does not play rugby anymore (body disagreed with the sport) he is very keen in developing the next batch of players. As such he currently works within the community coaching scheme at London Irish hopefully developing some future starts of the game. EXERCISE SPECIALIST / Mike started Muay Thai in 1992 and has been teaching Muay Thai otherwise known as Thai Boxing since 2002. At the beginning of his career, after training for a couple of years, he had his first competition in 1994. / Mike was selected to train at Kaewsamrit which is a professional training gym in Bangkok; which was voted best Muay Thai gym in Thailand in 2002. He was asked to compete and was successful in representing the gym at UBC Stadium; which is the fourth largest Muay Thai stadium in Thailand. EXERCISE SPECIALIST / Jas studied sports science at the University of Kent, in which he achieved first class honours. He has worked in the health and fitness industry since 2010. In this time he has trained all types of people, from sedentary individuals looking to become more active and fit, to clients who wish to push their limits and even national level athletes. / Having had a keen interest in boxing training from an early age, Jas has competed at an amateur level for Gravesham ABC, and can add the knowledge gained from the sport into his sessions. His passion is getting the human body working as best as it can. He applies a multi-faceted approach that incorporates mobility, conditioning and strength to help his clients achieve total fitness alongside their primary goals. Jas can help you achieve your potential in an effective and enjoyable way that will get you results and keep you learning and mastering new things. Not only will this keep you interested but also makes training extremely fulfilling and rewarding, which is exactly the way it should be.

Russell Scott-Skinner

EXERCISE SPECIALIST / Russell is one of our newest trainers and comes with a wide background in mixed martial arts and extreme sports. Starting at an early age he represented his county at fencing under 12’s which was followed by county rugby at under 16’s and then he went on to the British championships for Tae Kwon Do at 18. From there a brief gap ensued and then at 22 Russell found his true love of Muai Thai boxing. / Starting at an early age he represented his county at fencing under 12’s which was followed by county rugby at under 16’s and then he went on to the British championships for Tae Kwon Do at 18. From there a brief gap ensued and then at 22 Russell found his true love of Muai Thai boxing. Training with, and under Mike Showers and some of the best Muai Thai fighters and trainers in the country for over 8 years. Russell stepped into the ring competitively himself on numerous occasions and through this period gained a vast knowledge into the physicality, diet and psychology of dedicating yourself to a specific physical goal. In 2009 Russell added Ju Jitsu to his skill set to bring in the ‘ground game’ dimension to compliment his stand up Thai kick boxing. Training under Chris Doherty at Sevenoaks Ju Jitsu, four years later he went on to work as an instructor in the children’s classes. When Russell isn’t training people, you’ll need to look for him on the ocean or in the mountains with either a surfboard or snowboard firmly locked to his feet. Outside of his sports Russell is also highly creative, he has built and sold two successful photographic and video studios. One of which, 7oaks Photography was just a stone’s throw from our gym here. He has also had his art and visual work featured on the BBC, used in the run up to the London Olympics 2012 and exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions.

EXERCISE SPECIALIST / Stemming from an Army background, Jimmy attended a military boarding school where sport and exercise became a primary focus of his life. Playing rugby dominated the majority of Jimmy’ years through school and university, as well as running cross country, gymnastic, trampolining, skiing, and more recently, cycling. / Jimmy gained his BSc and MSc from the University of Portsmouth, with a focus on elite athlete development. While studying he trained a variety of athletes in a multitude of sports, including training young developing gymnasts, university rugby players and disabled adult track and field athletes. Jimmy has also expanded his toolbox with rehabilitation and sport therapy training and currently works as head physio for a semi-professional football team in Hampshire. Jimmy is also a qualified sports massage therapist, a supplement to any training package he offers. His varied experience has enabled Jimmy to absorb knowledge from many different exercise settings. His friendly, easy-going approach will make anyone feel at ease in their efforts to become healthier, stronger and/or pain free. Whether you are recovering from an injury, looking to shift your health up a gear, or fine tune your body to optimize performance, Jimmy is your man.

Sam Austin

EXERCISE SPECIALIST / After graduating with an honours degree in Sport and Exercise Science at Coventry University, Sam set his sights towards strength and conditioning. Working with Burton rugby club Sam specialised in the athletic development of youth players (aged 14-18), fixing muscular imbalances, improving movement efficiency, and helping individuals achieve their body composition goals. / Sam introduced players, coaches, and parents at Burton rugby club to the whole concept of strength and conditioning; educating them on the potential benefits before earning their support. Sam’s work contributed to the U16’s team reaching the county cup final, securing a place in the national cup, and achieving the East Staffordshire junior team of the year award. It has also helped some of the players to secure positions at premiership academy teams such as Leicester Tigers and London Irish. Sam has been extremely influential on the way the club now views its training. Alongside his work with the rugby club, he was helping his friends and family with their training and nutrition to help them reach their body composition goals. He helped one of his close friends lose 6.5 stone in the space of a year, and he’s still going! From a young age Sam took to multiple sports including football, rugby, athletics, and excelling in Tang So Do (self-defence) to become sparring European champion at the age of 9. After joining his first gym in 2009, Sam found his love for the iron and has his since been focused on qualifying for the nationals in powerlifting. Sam will be the trainer with a big grin on his face and the immaculate curls. Feel free to go over and say hi!

EXERCISE SPECIALIST / Oliver is a recent graduate from Liverpool John Moores University, where he spent three years studying science and football. He has had an affinity for all sports from an early age, excelling on the track and field at school, with football and weight training being his forte. This early exposure to a competitive environment has led to a zealous embracing of the challenges that come with weight loss and personal training. Oliver will stop at nothing to help you get to your goals. / During his time at university, Oliver spent time on placement working as a strength and conditioning coach for young athletes at the Tranmere Rovers Football Club Academy. Predominantly focusing on athlete development and SAQ drills, Oliver’s role here was to create fun and enjoyable sessions that also helped improve performance. He now looks to offer the same to you. If you are a young athlete who wishes to improve their performance in sport, or someone looking to improve their body composition – all whilst enjoying themselves in the company of a high energy, positive minded person, Oliver is your go to man!

EXERCISE SPECIALIST / We’re pleased to introduce Rebecca Collingwood, one of our newest recruits. Rebecca graduated from the University of Kent in 2014, bringing a degree in Sports Therapy with her to Team BBG as well as her passion for helping others improve their health and quality of life. / As her field of study suggests, Rebecca is a specialist in injury recovery and rehabilitation. She wants to make sure that all our clients are given the opportunity to be the best they can be physically, a sentiment we certainly share! So whether this is achieved through the use of therapeutic techniques, psychological help, nutritional advice or a tailored training programme, you’ll find Rebecca fully committed to getting you back to a normal range of motion, completely pain free. She’ll also tutor you in techniques that will help you slip back into your lifestyle without hindrance and without reoccurring injury. Rebecca has participated in a multitude of sports over the years, but her true love has always been for swimming. She has dedicated many years to both competing and coaching others. This has given her a solid foundation for entry into Team BBG, providing a real understanding of the levels of commitment and determination needed to perform at your best. She also understands every client and situation is different, and her training and advice will always reflect this. Richard Turner

EXERCISE SPECIALIST / Richard studied Sports Science and Coaching at Bedford University before travelling to the USA, where he worked as a leader for a popular summer camp that catered for 12-14 year old boys. / He also found himself in Australia after being invited out to play field hockey In Newcastle and then Sydney, neatly accommodating his passions for both travel and professional level sport. Richard started his own personal training business, Dickie’s Fitness, two years ago after working in gyms across Kent and the South East. As his experience and knowledge increased, he moved away from cross-fit and began to focus on exercises and concepts that would be more beneficial to his clients when it came to delivering real-world results. He further complimented his skill-set with workshops and qualifications in Olympic weightlifting, calisthenics and movement perfection. Richard is still a keen hockey player, now representing the Men’s 1st team right here in Sevenoaks, who play in the second highest league in the country. His other sporting hobby is cricket, and there too he represents the Kent village team of Leeds and Broomfield, who play at Leeds Castle. Richard’s current focus in his training is Olympic weightlifting, due to the transferability of power, speed and strength that is relevant to his other sports. The other muscle he is keen on flexing is a sharp mind, and he’s always happy to learn new things, and relishes a challenging chat with his clients!

EXERCISE SPECIALIST / Dan has recently joined the Better Body Group Team and has a strong Rugby background. Being brought up within a keen sporting family encouraged Dan to participate in a variety of sports from an early age which has allowed him to gain a greater understanding of how the body works in various sporting demands. / Studying Sports Performance and Excellence at College alongside the Saracens Academy gave Dan a foundation of knowledge which lead him onto University where he studied Sports Analysis and Coaching at Kingston, achieving a 2:1 Honours Degree. Whilst in his final year he gained a 3 month internship alongside Rugby Premiership side Wasps, here he worked closely with the academy department in the development of their athletes. It was his time at University and Wasps where his passion for sport performance grew, and he went onto develop and implement a strength and conditioning program for the University rugby team. Dan has also been lucky enough to have the opportunity to travel the Southern Hemisphere where he spent a year in Auckland playing rugby for a season. After University, Dan secured a position as a Rugby Development Officer in Stevenage. This role consisted of developing junior and senior players to improve their game, understanding and conditioning to enable them to be at the top of their game throughout the season. He thoroughly enjoyed working closely with the juniors to develop their SAQ skills and saw huge improvements over the course of the season. Dan’s friendly and approachable personality will enable you to work together to achieve your goals. His enthusiasm for health and fitness alongside his experience with a range of individuals will be sure to take you to the next level.

EXERCISE SPECIALIST / James Hudson is an extremely energetic and enthusiastic trainer. He studied Sports and Exercise Science at Loughborough University where he was able to indulge his passion for both rugby and gymnastics. He is an equally zealous golfer, cyclist and weightlifter. / James is also an experienced rugby coach and has just finished an internship with Harlequins RFC as a nutrition assistant. Having worked with players of all ages and first team athletes of all shapes and sizes, he has learnt to tailor his nutritional advice to each individual’s personal goals for muscle gain and fat loss. James puts a focus on maximising adaptation to training and developing peak performance. This has brought him together with triathletes, cyclists and gymnasts like Kieran Behan, who has just qualified for Rio. James offers an athlete centred training approach combined with good natured fun and enthusiasm that is certain to get the best from his clients during each session.
